In a move to modernize crime investigation and enhance forensic capabilities, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step by announcing the establishment of six new forensic science laboratories (FSLs). These labs will be set up in Ayodhya, Basti, Banda, Azamgarh, Mirzapur, and Saharanpur, aiming to support law enforcement with faster and more efficient crime detection and evidence analysis.
Back in 2017, the state had only four forensic labs to aid criminal investigations. However, recognizing the growing demand for scientific support in law enforcement, eight additional forensic labs were set up over the years, significantly expanding forensic infrastructure. With these six new labs in the pipeline, the government is taking yet another stride toward equipping police forces with cutting-edge scientific tools to solve crimes more effectively.
Forensic science plays a critical role in criminal investigations by analyzing key evidence like DNA samples, fingerprints, ballistics, toxicology reports, and cyber forensic data. By decentralizing forensic services and setting up labs in different regions, the state aims to minimize delays in case analysis and speed up justice delivery, ensuring that investigations are not hindered by logistical constraints.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for better law and order management. These labs will house advanced forensic equipment and expert professionals trained to handle complex cases, including cybercrimes, financial fraud, narcotics-related offenses, and violent crimes. By strengthening forensic services, Uttar Pradesh is paving the way for a more efficient and scientifically backed criminal justice system.
