I keep telling my readers that there is (SERIOUSLY) no point doing hundreds of certifications from institutions whose credibility itself is a question mark. And believe me you, for Forensic Science they are innumerable.
At the same time, I also suggest my students, to go for online courses, short term courses, webinars and what not to accumulate knowledge.
These days there are so many YouTube channels (mostly made by students themselves) giving lectures , institutes giving certifications without even registering their place, take this as a warning/suggestion/guidance/advice , that certifications from them or half-knowledge from them would be dangerous.
If you want to get a certificate from India’s top government institutions like IITs and IISc, by enrolling in an online course and that too at a minimal cost, is worth the money. Isn’t it ??
NPTEL
National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is an online learning platform for university-level science, technology, engineering, and mathematics subjects. It is jointly developed by Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science, initiated in 2003.

It has engineering subjects, Biotechnology, Ocean Engineering, Metallurgical Sciences, Psychology, Medical subjects, etc to offer the students.
NPTEL and Forensic Science??
Now the question arises, “There isn’t any course on Forensic Science, Why should I enroll myself in the above mentioned courses?”
And I would say “Why not ?” to your question. As you know Forensic Science is an inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary subject. The disadvantage or discouragement we have/face while hunting for a JOB is “WE DO NOT KNOW ENOUGH ” ” WE ARE’NT GOOD ENOUGH”!!
How do one become good enough ?
One thing I have realized in my Forensic Career and you will disagree with me is ‘ Degree Doesn’t Matter’! Surprised?? If they have their Degree card for us, we should have our knowledge card as rebuttal.
In all my interviews, despite being a “FORENSIC” Student, I must have been initially looked down upon because “PEOPLE PRESUME, PEOPLE JUDGE “. But once they started throwing questions at me, they had to change their presumption and judgement.
So, the only weapon that we have with US is OUR Knowledge. Till date, I keep doing these certifications just to keep my knowledge spectrum wider and brighter.
Courses You Should Go For
- Biotechnology
- Chemistry and Bio chemistry
- Environmental Science
- Physics
- Humanities and Social Science -> Psychology
- Nanotechnology
- Law
- Medical Courses
How to Choose A Course?
This is the most important question. Now , you need to make a smart choice here. Do not just go for any random course. Keep it in sync with your dissertation or specialization. If you want to make a career in Forensic Physics, go for Physics course, in Wildlife or Environmental Forensics go for Environmental Science, so on and so forth.
Do not Just take up a course for the sake of it otherwise you will have to face questions in your interview on this particular certification of yours too and believe me you do not want extra question and thus extra stress.
