Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has declined to undergo polygraph and voice matching tests requested by the Lahore police amidst ongoing investigations into the riots that erupted following his arrest last year
Khan, who is currently detained in Adiala Jail, was approached by a 12-member forensic team from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) for the tests. These tests were part of an effort to gather evidence related to the violent outbreaks on May 9, 2023, which followed Khan’s arrest in a high-profile corruption case.
During an initial questioning session led by DSP Asif from the Lahore police, Khan cooperated for approximately 15 minutes. However, he refused to proceed with the polygraph and voice matching tests, citing ongoing investigations by other institutions as his reason for non-compliance.
The riots, which caused extensive damage to military installations and monuments, prompted a significant crackdown on Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The refusal to undergo these tests adds another layer of complexity to the investigations, as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to the widespread unrest.
The forensic team’s visit to Adiala Jail marks a critical moment in the investigation, with law enforcement officials seeking to establish a clearer understanding of Khan’s role and the communications that may have incited the riots. The refusal to participate in these forensic tests could impact the trajectory of the investigation and the legal proceedings that follow.
As the situation develops, all eyes remain on the outcomes of the various investigations and the potential implications for Khan and PTI.
