On the night before Diwali, October 30, 26-year-old Manoj Thakur went out with his nephew, 19-year-old Dharam Singh, for a casual evening of drinking. They bought alcohol, got some food, and spent time together. Singh returned home afterward, but Thakur never did. His family, concerned for his safety, filed a missing person report with the Jabalpur police.
The next day, a body was found in a field on the city outskirts, later identified as Thakur. With no clear evidence or witnesses, the police faced what is known as a “blind murder”—a case with no obvious suspects or motives.
The Nephew Under Suspicion
Since Singh was the last person to see Thakur alive, the police naturally called him in for questioning. Singh, however, maintained his innocence, claiming he knew nothing about what happened after he and his uncle parted ways. Without evidence, motive, or any signs of foul play from Singh, the police reluctantly cleared him as a suspect.

Abhishek Payasi, the officer in charge of the Chargawan police station, found this odd behavior too suspicious to ignore. He instructed Singh to hand over his shirt for examination.
