Case Overview:
In a chilling case of conspiracy and betrayal, a man named Pradyumna Kumar, along with his two girlfriends, allegedly murdered his wife, Subhashree Nayak, in Bhubaneswar using anesthesia. The case, which initially appeared as a suicide, unfolded into a complex investigation involving toxicology and forensic analysis.
Background:
Subhashree Nayak, a resident of BJB Nagar in Khurda, married Pradyumna Kumar, a pharmacist from Kendrapara, in 2020. The marriage, however, was reportedly fraught with issues from the beginning, with allegations of assault and harassment surfacing against Pradyumna. Due to this abuse, Subhashree had been living separately with her mother for several months. On October 28, Subhashree was reported dead, with her husband and in-laws claiming it was suicide.
Suspicion and Initial Investigation:
Subhashree’s mother, Tapaswini Nayak, suspected foul play and filed a complaint, prompting the Bharatpur Police to investigate further. A postmortem examination conducted at Capital Hospital revealed the cause of death to be an overdose of anesthesia, contrary to the initial suicide claim.
Revealing the Conspiracy:
During interrogation, Pradyumna admitted to forming a relationship with two women, Ejita Bhuyan and Roji Patra, whom he met while working at local hospitals. Together, they devised a plan to end Subhashree’s life. Roji, working in the medical field, was tasked with procuring anesthesia injections, while Pradyumna convinced Subhashree to return to his home, setting the stage for the crime.
On October 28, Pradyumna brought Subhashree to a rented house arranged by Roji. Along with Ejita, they forcibly administered a lethal dose of anesthesia, resulting in her immediate death. Attempting to stage the death as a sudden medical emergency, they transported her to Capital Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Forensic Evidence:
The police sent the syringe and anesthesia used in the crime to the forensic lab for analysis, confirming the presence of a high dosage of anesthesia. This toxicology evidence played a crucial role in supporting the postmortem findings and disproving the initial suicide claim.
Outcome:
All three accused, Pradyumna, Ejita, and Roji, were arrested and charged with murder(Section 103, BNS). The case is currently under further investigation, with the forensic analysis providing critical evidence in building a case against the accused.
Significance:
This case underscores the importance of forensic analysis in uncovering the truth behind unnatural deaths. The role of toxicology in identifying anesthesia overdose was essential in revealing the premeditated nature of the crime, transforming a suspected suicide into a clear case of homicide.
