The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken swift action by sending samples of dry yeast suspected to be mixed with narcotics to a forensic lab for analysis. Preliminary tests have shown indications of cocaine presence.
This shipment was seized in Vizag Port with the collaboration of Customs officials. A case has been registered against Sandhya Aqua Exports Private Limited, the importing company.
Approximately 140 samples were gathered from the shipment, each pallet containing 1,000 bags of 25 kgs of dry yeast. The shipment was allegedly imported for producing shrimp feed.
Initial tests have hinted at the presence of cocaine in the dry yeast, awaiting confirmation from the forensic lab.
The CBI is contemplating adding more individuals to the case, pending the forensic results.
Two individuals from the port city and the company’s director and vice president of supply chain have undergone questioning.
- The ship carrying the shipment had made a stop at Hamburg port in Germany for nearly six days, raising concerns about potential tampering.
- Despite uncertainties, Interpol has affirmed the presence of narcotics in the shipment.
