The 1st Sir BN Rau National Essay Writing Competition, 2024, is being organized by UPSIFS, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Constitution of India and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The competition honors the legacy of Sir Benegal Narsing Rau, one of India’s foremost constitutional architects, and aims to explore the evolving relationship between law, justice, and forensic science in the realm of criminal justice.
The competition is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students of Law and Forensic Science from across India, with the theme:
“The Harmonious Interplay of Fair Trial and Scientific Investigation: A Constitutional Odyssey.”
The event challenges participants to examine the increasing role of forensic science in criminal investigations, particularly in light of technological advancements. Participants will be asked to critically analyze the contributions of forensic science in upholding the justice principles embedded in the Constitution of India, while proposing solutions to enhance the criminal justice system.
Eligibility
- Open to undergraduate and postgraduate students currently enrolled in recognized Law or Forensic Science programs across India.
Submission Procedure
- Fill out the online registration form at the end of this post.
- Last Date to Register: January 10, 2025 (late entries will not be considered).
- A non-refundable registration fee of ₹250 must be paid online before submitting the form.
Submission Guidelines
- No Co-authorship is allowed.
- Word Limit: 2500-3000 words (excluding footnotes).
- Font:
- Times New Roman
- Size 14 for headings, 12 for body, 10 for footnotes.
- Line Spacing: 1.5 for body, 1.0 for footnotes.
- Citation Style: OSCOLA.
- Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
- Footnotes: Speaking footnotes (max 50 words) allowed but not mandatory.
- Plagiarism: Maximum 10% (as per UGC guidelines). Any proven instance of plagiarism or AI use will result in immediate disqualification.
- Post-Competition Publication: Any subsequent publication requires prior approval from the organizers.
Awards and Certificates
- 1st Prize: ₹10,000
- 2nd Prize: ₹7,000
- 3rd Prize: ₹5,000
- Three Consolation Prizes: ₹2,500 each
- Certificate of Participation for all participants.
